Despite the exclusively classical studies of guitar and composition, Claudio Gabbiani has always in actual fact devoted himself to cultivating and broadening an interest in every aspect of music (classical, rock, electronic and experimental), proposing himself both as performer and composer and as producer and organizer.
As electronic performer and composer, he has been invited to numerous conferences and music festivals (Milan, Siena, Lausanne, Pisa, Lucca, Cologne, Padua, Brescia, Bolzano, Ferentino, Madrid, Tokyo, Kyoto, Genoa, Stockholm, Paris, Los Angeles).
His compositions have been recorded and broadcast by RadioTelevisione Italiana-RAI and by foreign networks; he has also realized sound tracks for commercial spots, TV documentaries and environment sonorization.
He has collaborated with Milan's Teatro alla Scala, being responsible for directing the sound engineering and video recording of various operas: Boito's Mefistofele (conductor, Riccardo Muti); Berlioz' La damnation de Faust (conductor, Seji Ozawa); Il rosso e il nero, ballet based on Stendhal with music by Berlioz; Beni Montresor's Le streghe di Venezia with music by Philip Glass; Berlioz' Les Troyens (conductor, Colin Davis); Clementi's Carillon (conductor, Zoltan Pesko).
As production manager of Associazione MM&T (Musica Musicisti & Tecnologie) of Milan, he has also been responsible for the planning and production of musical and multi-media events including:
- sonorization of the Ponte di Mezzo over the river Arno at Pisa;
- Metropoli, project of metropolitan culture: performances by Lella Costa, Laura Ferrari, Lucia Vasini and Raoul Cremona;
- L'officina musicale (The Musical Workshop): concerts of yesterday and of tomorrow;
- Senza Parole (Without Words): project of cinema and music, silent films with original soundtracks performed live;
- Il Giardino della Musica, (Garden of Music), three weeks of music at the Palazzina Liberty and in its gardens: classical, folk, borderline and computer music;
- To Sting: four nights of guitar. lute, vihuela, mandoline and of new hi-tech and digital instruments.

Gabbiani's compositions have been released on CD with the following labels: Lowlands, New Sound Multimedia, Auditorium, Recommended, Erga and Halidon.
He has collaborated with Meira Asher, Keith Tippet, Jon Rose, Chris Cutler, Roberto Musci, Claudio Chianura and Roberto Zorzi, writing and performing live in numerous Italian cities the soundtracks for theatrical events and for silent films, including: Der Golem (1920 - dir. Paul Wegener and Carl Bose), The Crowd (1928 - dir. King Vidor), The Phantom of the Opera (1925 - dir. Rupert Julian), Safety Last (1923 - dir. Harold Lloyd), Regen (1926 – dir. Joris Ivens), The Bridge (1929 – dir. Joris Ivens), Manhattan (1921 – dir. Paul Strand), Le straordinarissime avventure di Saturnino Farandolà (1913 – dir. M. Fabre).

Gabbiani edited a series dedicated to progressive and "borderline" music for the publishing house Auditorium, producing: Giorni Felici (LA1919),The Promise (T. Moore, E. Parker, W. Prati), Through (H. Kaiser-R. Zorzi), Nightnursing (Claudio Gabbiani), Three Incredible Ideas (T. Moore, G. Schiaffini, W. Prati), Beyond (J. Baron, E. Sharp, R. Zorzi), Shortwave Postcard (Alex De Grassi, J. E. Stinson) and Conctat (Gaetano Liguori Band).

He has composed the soundtrack for the short “Mojito” (directed by Stefano Bruno).
Under sponsorship of the Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali and Ministero per l’Innovazione e le Tecnologie, “Mojito” is a short film which provides visually impaired persons with a real cinema experience: a few minutes of intense involvement inside a movie theatre to really enjoy its warmth and magic. Some new technical tricks will enable both those who can watch the images and those who can follow the plot through the soundtrack to share the same emotions. Sitting side by side, everyone in the audience will be enveloped in a 3D atmosphere and will share a strong emotional experience.

In September 1994 and July 1996, with the irreplaceable help of his wife Ingeborg, he became the father of Federico and Emma: undoubtedly his best compositions
